I hold a personal chair at the University of Portsmouth affiliated with the Faculty of Health Science at Portsmouth, UK. I am also a Director and Founding Member of the European Academy of Robotic Colorectal Surgery (EARCS) since 2014.

Skilled Researcher enthusiastic about supporting advancement colorectal surgery and surgical education. Passionate about increasing knowledge to drive growth and needed improvements. I participated in over 150 publications in international peer reviewed journals and book chapters. Additionally, I supervised research projects and postgraduate education programes, leading to awards of MSc, MRes and MD degrees.

My interest in teaching and training of minimal access surgery, led me to develop and design the robotic rectal training programme for European colorectal surgeons and led the creation of the European Academy of Robotic Colorectal Surgery (EARCS). I have also established international epicenters of excellence for laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery throughout Europe, Russia, East Africa, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and China.

  • National Training Programme (NTP) Laparoscopic colorectal Surgery (2008 – 2013). Portsmouth Hospital became the largest contributor to the National Training Programe with the highest number of consultants who were signed-off for independent practice as laparoscopic colorectal surgeons.
  • National Fellowship for Post CCT Trainees – 2008 to present. Hosted National Fellowships Programme for UK trainees in advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery to train senior trainees before they take on independent consultant jobs.
  • National Preceptor in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery - ALSGBI (2006 to 2008). Trained established consultant colorectal surgeons.
  • Teaching and training surgical trainees and medical students: Higher Surgical Trainees (HST) from Wessex Deanery (Two HSTs/Year). Regular training days/courses for HST and consultants
