Work History

Scientist

Instituto De Biologia Experimental E Tecnológica
Oeiras, Portugal
11.2021 - 11.2024
  • I worked in the field of production and downstream processing of biological products, where I leverage my expertise in utilizing AKTA systems and various analytical methods.
  • My role involved optimizing processes to ensure high yield and purity of biological products while maintaining compliance with industry standards

Post-doctoral Researcher

Technical University of Denmark
05.2021 - 10.2021
  • My post-doctoral research studies are part of a Wellcome funding project that aims to discover a well-characterized panel of broadly neutralizing IgGs and nanobodies to neutralize medically relevant snake toxins, in order to improve snakebite envenoming therapy
  • Technically, this research project involves the employment of standard phage display protocols, however, since the main aim of the project is to find cross-reactive antibodies, sequential antigen panning is the main strategy being applied

Research Scientist

Mologic, ltd
09.2019 - 03.2021
  • At Mologic I worked for the Centre for Advanced Rapid Diagnostics (CARD), funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in the generation, improvement and assessment of new antibody reagents for application in Malaria and Covid-19 rapid diagnostic tests
  • My work involved antibody engineering, protein expression and purification, and also protein characterisation
  • I was responsible for designing and cloning new multimeric antibody constructs (Fabs, scFvs and VHHs with different multimerization domains), for expression in bacterial systems
  • For many different projects, I did substantial work in generating and panning Fab/scFv phage libraries for discovery of high affinity antibody reagents to be applied in lateral flow diagnostic tests

Research Assistant

Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences
02.2015 - 06.2016
  • At IBB, I worked in downstream processing of monoclonal antibodies using aqueous two-phase systems and chromatography - Protein A/G affinity chromatography and ion-exchange chromatography (AKTA systems)
  • The work was funded by a European project called INTENSO, that was focused on the identification of the main bottlenecks of the most commonly used antibody downstream process methods
