After taking a Masters degree in English at the University of California in Davis, I received a teaching certificates and diploma to teach EFL in Portugal and other places abroad. I have taught in a variety of language schools and settings, most recently with English Language Programs as a Virtual Educator in the Congo (DRC). Over my career, my learners have been mainly Portuguese-speaking, but also other Europeans, Brazilians, Africans, and Asians–the latter in particular when I spent half of a sabbatical year in Vietnam teaching for the British Council and a business college for adults. The main emphasis of my experience is with younger teens to older adults, in general and exam-related courses, using graded readers and task-based methodologies, yet now I am experimenting with the emergence of accessible online resources. Most importantly, what fuels my passion for the EFL profession is a keen interest in languages and the cultures they come from.
I am a fluent speaker of Portuguese, with a reasonable knowledge of Spanish and French.
