Shift Manager

Uncle Sams
Brighton
04.2022 - 03.2025
  • I started this job four months after I turned sixteen, I was trained on an outdated POS and had to quickly adapt to its faults, the way it worked and button combinations to input the desired product or function.
  • Within one year of working here I became a shift manager due to my organisation skills, ability to hold high standards in food safety, customer service and my grasp of the overall job.
  • During my first year as shift manager I was trusted to cash up, train new staff, keep an eye out on stock while informing higher shift managers about low stock whose job was to order it in.
  • I also had to resolve customer complaints, ensure that orders were going out within our five minute time frame, hot and correct, while also organising the shift so that every team member was working quickly and effectively.
  • There were times (often with relatively new staff) where the shop would get a large rush and I would help out each member by running from station to station to help out and ensure that all orders were being given out to our standard.
  • By my second year as shift manager, and third as a team member on the job, I was trusted with more responsibilities as I had become the most trusted shift manager.
  • I was taught how to complete important paperwork and weekly administrative tasks including; sales reporting, financial and stock summaries for head office, recorded sales, entered weekly financial targets and was trusted to collect change from the post office and handle all cash securely and accurately.
  • I also understood how much stock was needed for the week based off of our weekly target, this meant I was able to forecast and manage stock by adding or cancelling items on orders based on stock demand.
  • This meant I was able to respond quickly to stock issues or missing delivery items by sourcing essential products from local supermarkets and when necessary outside of work hours so that there was enough stock until the issue was rectified by the third party company.
  • I took on extra management responsibilities during the owners maternity leave including resolving rota issues due to sickness or absence and liaising directly with head office on issues, these jobs were formally conducted by the owner.
  • I was also the first person to be notified if any issues occurred on shifts during this time so that I could sort the issue out or guide a colleague on how to resolve it.
  • Opening and cleaning responsibilities.
  • Responsible for opening the shop and preparing fresh vegetables (lettuce, onions, tomatoes and pickles) and also organising what stock had to be made for the day like dips, garlic mayo, blue cheese sauce etc.
  • I conducted daily and weekly cleaning routines.
  • The cooker had to have a daily clean every morning before opening, as well as the two to four fryers that were used the day before.
  • On Mondays and Fridays I would change the oil in all four fryers.
  • Every Tuesday I would clean the cooker and fryer chimneys.
  • And on Thursdays I would complete a weekly clean of the cooker all within a tight time frame.
  • On Monday I would accurately complete full stock takes and submitted required paperwork to head office.
  • Adapted quickly when business hours were changed in April and successfully completed all relevant tasks within half an hour.
  • Assisted with delivery intake and stock rotation ensuring efficient organisation.
  • Maintained a consistent five star food hygiene rating.
  • Trained and supported new staff.
  • Carried out daily and weekly cashing up duties ensuring that the cash intake matched up with the POS data and ensuring there was always the correct float in the till.
  • Supervised team members on shift maintaining efficiency and high standards.
  • Successfully completed all FSA and food allergy certifications with top marks and ensured all staff had achieved the same.
  • Maintained performance in high pressure environments and helped the team through challenging situations.

Work Experience

CDS Mayfair
London
05.2023 - 05.2023

CDS Mayfair is a law firm practising in real estate, banking & finance, commercial litigation and property litigation. I used legal databases like practical law and lexisnexus to discover precedent and law like lifetime tenancy agreements, settled land act 1925, tortious interference and article 86 of the treaty of Rome to assist in a legal dispute.

1 week work experience I understood and learnt how law firms operate. With each employee bouncing ideas off of each other and an overall team cooperation on tasks when one employee may ask another for help if their knowledge and expertise of the subject was more significant than theirs. I also developed an understanding of how real law in practise works. I was given various legal tasks to work on.
